About this project

The Listening Room is an independent editorial project about listening to recorded music: what the genres are, how music theory works when you are not a musician, what makes a song good, and how to listen more closely.

Plainly stated

This site sits at a web address that a different project used in the past. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a continuation of any recording artist, band, or label that may have previously used this domain. We use no former brand name, we reproduce no song lyrics, and we make no claim of continuity with any previous owner.

What we do and do not do

We write plain-language guides for listeners. We do not sell music, host downloads, or reproduce copyrighted lyrics. Where we name artists or records, it is to point you toward them, in the ordinary way a magazine or a friend would.
